Books about cob building

I’ve fancied trying my hand at building with cob for quite some time. I’m not bold, brave or foolish(!?) enough to consider a large project but I’d like to give it a go in the form of a small shed / hut / out-house – that was part of the reason I started this site.

I’ve had the book ‘Building with Cob: A Step-by-step Guide‘ on my Amazon wish list for a long time and had a chance to buy one during a recent visit to the Eden Project where there were copies in stock in the excellent book section of the shop. I didn’t buy it in at Eden, thinking I’d get it cheaper online only to find it on Amazon for £43 despite a cover price of £25 (it’s now available for a more reasonable £17.01 – there’s also a Kindle edition). At this price I questioned my real need for such a pricey slab of paper and went to see what else I could find on the web. That’s when I came across ‘The Cob Builders Handbook’ available as a PDF free from http://www.weblife.org/cob/

A great, free resource for all prospective cobbers…

The handbook take you right through from choosing a site, to gathering materials, building from the foundations up right through to plastering and ‘finishing touches’.

I am officially inspired and raring to go – expect to hear more from ‘The Cob Builders Handbook’ around here…
