My Design

On this page I list the choices I’ve made so far in starting to put together my design for My Place Of My Own:

• Cob - I’ll strongly consider using cob in the construction of at least some of the walls. Books.
• I want ventilation and a porch area like on a Dogtrot house – yeehaa!
• I’ll seek to utilise local, renewable or sustainable materials as far as possible in construction of the building.
• I’ll keep it simple – the primitive hut will watch-over my design.
• I quite fancy a day-bed like GBS had!
• Access to the roof would be nice like a Friggeboden… and I think I’ll make the roof live (hopefully not like Frankenstein).
• Make it local and make it castley with towers – or perhaps a fort!
• I like ‘uncensored and unapologetic exposed materials and structure and the functional effective use of every inch of space’- like in this Canadian Cabin. I’ll second that ‘effective use of every inch of space’, I’ll aim to optimise the effective use of functional space – like Steve Sauer in his Seattle apartment.
• Horizontal windows work really nicely to capture the landscape beyond.
• Flexible opening walls open all sorts of options in relation to function.
